Global Center for Medical Innovation’s Board of Directors has announced Sherry Farrugia will serve as the organization’s interim CEO, effective immediately. Ms. Farrugia comes to GCMI from the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Pediatric Technology Center at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she was Chief Operating and Strategy Officer spending the past 10 years focused on accelerating innovation for pediatrics. The announcement comes days after the resignation of Tiffany Wilson, who served as the CEO since August 2016.

“GCMI is very pleased Sherry Farrugia has accepted the role of interim CEO,” stated Bob Crutchfield, GCMII’s Chairman of the Board. “Her knowledge of the commercialization ecosystem related to her leadership role at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Technology Center at the Georgia Institute of Technology will bring great value and stability to GCMI as we begin a National search for our permanent CEO. We are grateful for the great leadership Tiffany Wilson provided during her CEO tenure at GCMI and wish her well in her new venture.”

“I want to personally thank Tiffany Wilson for her leadership over the past 8 years, and the GCMI Board of Directors for their confidence in me to serve as Interim CEO,” stated Ms. Farrugia. “Having spent the past 10 years at Georgia Tech I’ve had the privilege to work with GCMI on numerous projects. GCMI’s mission to accelerate the development and commercialization of innovative medical products not only aligns with my passion to support translational research in the healthcare space, but is also important to the economic development in our region.”

Crutchfield further stated, “The GCMI Board recognizes Sherry has demonstrated successful leadership, knowledge of medical device strategy and development, as well as a history of being intricately involved with GCMI’s success in supporting frontline healthcare workers with PPE during the Coronavirus pandemic. Her strong relationships amplified the impact of the PPE initiatives within the healthcare community and influenced the team by advocating for GCMI as the critical link for successful production and commercialization of PPE.“

”Sherry’s energy, passion, and ability to rapidly assemble a team of internal and external experts, especially during our recent work together on PPEs and COVID-19, demonstrates her strong ties to the community and strength as a leader,” stated Mike Fisher, Director of Product Development for GCMI. “On behalf of the GCMI management team and staff, we are thrilled to welcome her as the Interim CEO”
